Action Plan Week 2: Welcome back for week 2 of the getting started course. Last week we covered research and the benefits of becoming good at researching industries, keywords, and choosing an industry. This week we are going to discuss how you should go about creating your campaign, and will also cover effective ways to drive free traffic to your website. You will a need a method to promote products online, and you will also need to be affiliated with a program that will allow you to promote product(s) online. We will discuss ways free and paid channels in which you can promote your chosen products, as well as give you insight into some of the top affiliate networks that you can sign-up with for free.
Let’s Go… Advertising One of the first things you should do is set up a Google Adwords account. Google Adwords is the top Pay-per-click (PPC) search engine and yields the highest results. For full details on how to create a Google account, visit the following page: It is not a necessity, but if you want increased exposure to another top tier search engine, Yahoo Search Marketing (Pay-per-click) is a great alternative to Google. Many top marketers use Yahoo to drive traffic to their pages as Yahoo’s network traffic yields very high conversions. There are some drawbacks to using Yahoo however. We have included these within the Yahoo Tutorial. Yahoo Search Marketing Tutorial Recommended Resources: Beating Adwords If you are looking to get a jump start on your competition and build a solid foundation, we suggest that you consider picking up a copy of Beating Adwords. Beating Adwords has been regarded as one of the top Google Adwords e-books available to the public. Best practices are described in detail within Beating Adwords, and it outlines how to achieve a high Quality Score – Google’s ranking algorithm that determines your ad CPC and positioning. Article Marketing (Free) Some would suggest that Article marketing is the best avenue to take if you have a limited budget for advertising. You can set up a full-fledge article marketing campaign for absolutely no cost. Article marketing should be incorporated into all marketers’ campaigns as it will increase ad writing a sales copy skills, as well as bring in additional traffic and revenue. You can do the same targeting other product related keywords. Do you need a webpage? At this point you do not need a webpage, but if you want to become a serious Internet marketer, a web page gives you the freedom and leverage to promote products using different sales strategies including product reviews, squeeze pages, and testimonials. A web page also gives you a medium where you can create a page where you do not have to rely on the merchant to generate your conversions. Tutorial on Creating a website You can however promote products online without a setting up a website. You can either create a campaign where you direct link, or you can take advantage of the feeder sites within WA. Direct Linking Direct linking is when you link directly to the merchant webpage from your paid advertising campaign. This method is not always the best, however, it can be a very effective way to determine whether or not a product is worth promoting. You can set-up a direct linking campaign in a matter of minutes and have traffic going to your website. If you are using Google Adwords for your Pay-per-click campaign, you will want to set the destination URL to point to your affiliate link. Your display URL should be the root page of the website. Here is an example of what your links would look like if you were direct linking to Beating Adwords: Destination URL: http://your_id.beatadword.hop.clickbank.net Display URL: BeatingAdwords.com OR www.BeatingAdwords.com There are a few negative effects that direct linking can have on your campaign that you should be forewarned about.
Direct linking is good for testing a product, but if you want to create a campaign that will achieve maximum profits you may want to consider creating landing pages. Feeder Sites
The feeder sites are different from the website templates in that you can simply use the link that is dynamically generate for you and you can promote all the products. You do not need a domain name, web hosting, or have to FTP any files. It is a hands free method of promoting products online, and is more effective than direct linking to a merchant web page as you are giving your visitors a choice. To view the feeder sites that are available to you, use the following link: Analyzing Your Competition This week we also think it is important to understand how to monitor and to analyze your competition. You can use the tool within the research center to keep an eye on your competition. You simply create a campaign with the “Research Top Listings” tool and you will be able to keep track of paid advertisements within Google. If an ad is typically showing under the same keyword for over a 2 week period, there is a good likelihood that the ad is profitable. You should take advantage of this tool when you are performing research on an industry and if you want to keep tabs on what your competition is doing. This can add extreme value to your campaign by knowing which keywords are performing for fellow advertisers. Have a very productive week and remember that in order to succeed, you actually have to apply the information that you have learned here. Create a few articles and submit them to the main article engines. Also, set up a Google Adwords and Yahoo account so that you can begin to learn about these systems and how to create profitable PPC campaigns. Don’t forget about the forum.
